Infertility
You want to start a family, but getting pregnant “the fun and easy way” is not working or not possible for you. Talking to someone who understands difficulties with family building can be an important way to gain support and understanding through the process. Dr. Schafer is a professional member of Resolve and the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM). She has completed extensive training and has worked with many individuals and couples who have struggled with fertility. She became passionate about this area of practice after her own struggles with fertility.
Assisted reproductive technology
Assisted reproductive technology (ART) includes procedures such as Intra-Uterine Insemination (IUI) and In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). IUI usually involves ovulation induction (though it can also be used with a “natural” cycle), with the insemination procedure (with a partner’s or donated sperm) conducted at ovulation. IVF with a person’s own eggs requires stimulation and retrieval of eggs, creation of embryos with a partner’s or donated sperm, and transfer of an embryo to a person’s uterus. The process can require many injections and frequent blood and ultrasound monitoring. The “roller coaster” of infertility can lead to challenges that benefit from the support of a trained professional.
